Myanmar Christmas Gift Programs - Dec. 2023

PDF Print

Thanks to the strong support from our loyal friends and donors, our fund provided USD15,000 for two Christmas Gift programs in Myanmar in December 2023:

Chin State Christmas Gift Program
1,303 children (preschool, Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3 and our scholarship students) received a gift bag ahead of Christmas.
Each gift bag contained essential items: like a blanket, socks, a tooth brush and tooth paste, a T-shirt or a school-backpack, etc. depending on the age of the children.
Local partners and project teachers (all volunteers) packed the bags and assisted with the distribution. We are grateful to everyone who helped with the successful execution of this project.
Please visit section Photo Gallery and look at the first album titled "2023 Christmas Gifts - Chin State".

  1.
  2. 2. Children Christmas Parties in different locations in Myanmar

1095 children in 7 different towns and villages in Myanmar were treated to a Christmas Party by a group of caring volunteers. There was singing and dancing and each child received a meal (cooked by volunteers) and a simple present. Depending on the location, the presents varied from snacks, clothes, hats, stationery, toiletries, buckets to wash clothes, or basic food items like rice and cooking oil. The meal is often the highlight of the parties.
Please visit section Photo Gallery and look at the second album titled "2023 Christmas Parties - Myanmar".

Please note:
    All 2398 children
who were included in the two programs live in poverty or are civil war victims. We believe the pictures in the two albums will show you how much joy a USD10 gift bag or a meal and small gift for about USD2 each can bring a needy child.

Due to website capacity limitations only a small number of pictures could be selected for the albums. Please excuse the quality of some pictures. This is the best the volunteers could do with their phones.

Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped us with funds to support these 2 gift programs and to all volunteers in Myanmar who provided their time and spared no effort to give the children a memorable Christmas.

Myanmar 2013 - 2015
When our coordinators in Sri Lanka advised that they could not handle the gifts for Christmas 2013, the trustees' unanimous decision was to move the program from Sri Lanka to Myanmar. We provided funds for basic food and gift items for approx. 1000 poor children in remote villages in Chin State (the poorest state in Myanmar) and for street children in Mandalay each year.

Sri Lanka 2006 – 2012
From December 2006 - December 2012 children (war and tsunami victims and students from poor families) in Sri Lanka received a Christmas gift package containing a school bag, school uniform, shoes and stationery for one academic year. Without this gift package, the children could not attend school. Nuns and Brothers channeled their requests through our scholarship coordinator.
